"Only when I can't break it anymore is it good enough." -Jasmijn's story.

When Jasmijn first walked into Demcon, she didn’t yet know which direction she wanted to take. With a degree in Biomedical Engineering but few clearly defined biomedical engineering roles outside the academic world, the job search in the Twente region felt limited. Still, she found exactly what she needed at Demcon: space to explore, to grow, and to shape her own path.

“The academic world didn’t quite suit me, so I started looking for something different. But then the options in Twente are pretty limited,” she says. An open application eventually led her to Demcon.

Because the available positions didn’t directly match her studies, Jasmijn wondered whether she would be a good fit. “During the first interview, I was immediately reassured. Together we looked at my strengths and what I wanted to learn. That’s how I ended up in my current role as a mechatronic engineer.”

For her first assignment, Demcon purposefully placed her on a major project. “That gave me a lot of room to discover what I’m good at and what I enjoy.” During that project, she learned to program in Python; something she couldn’t yet do at the time, but which has since become a key reason she’s invited to join new projects.

With a smile she says, “I’m basically always trying to break things. Only when I can’t break something anymore do I know the product is built well.” That curiosity and urge to test fit perfectly with her favorite type of work: proof of concepts. “It’s fantastic to work with the colleague who designed something and see whether a brilliant idea actually works in practice. You build something, test it, improve it, and together you create a result you can be proud of.”

Working from home is something Jasmijn rarely does. Her colleagues are an important source of motivation. “We work in a young environment with a great mix of people. Everyone at Demcon is passionate about technology, but they also value the social aspect. Because of that, you get to know each other in different ways outside of work—which ultimately makes collaboration even better.”
