With just the push of a button, the selection post determines whether someone will be subject to additional screening, largely without human intervention. This guarantees objective selection, strengthens trust between citizens and law enforcement, and contributes to a more transparent working method. It’s important to note that in suspicious situations, the police will always make their own assessment about whether to conduct a check. The selection post is intended as a tool for situations where random selection is desired.
The official handover took place at the Amsterdam police headquarters. Representing Demcon were Dirk Schröder (project manager) and Peet Hovenkamp (mechatronic systems engineer). They were welcomed by, among others, Peter Holla (Chief of Police, Amsterdam unit), Geert-Jan Staal (innovation coach), and Daan Groenink (innovator at the Municipality of Amsterdam).
The highlight of the day was the unveiling of the selection post, complete with police branding, by Peter Holla himself, who expressed his enthusiasm for the use of this technology in a variety of situations.
We are proud of this collaboration and look forward to seeing the first practical applications of the selection post. A big thank you to everyone involved who made this project possible!
