On June 1, construction on the first test facility for Thorizon’s molten salt reactor (MSR) in the Brabant region officially started. This marks an important milestone in the development of innovative nuclear technology that is widely seen as a promising step toward stable, reliable and clean energy in Europe. The kick-off event at the High Tech Campus Eindhoven brought together key representatives from government and industry, including European Commissioner Wopke Hoekstra and State Secretary for Climate and Green Growth Jo-Annes de Bat.
The test facility is part of the PROMOSA project, in which THORIZON, VDL Groep, Demcon suster, and Demcon high-tech systems collaborate closely with the Province of North Brabant. Together, the partners are developing, building and testing crucial components for the molten salt reactor.
The facility in Brabant enables testing of reactor components under realistic conditions in molten salt at high temperatures, without the use of nuclear fuel. The insights gained will play an important role in the further development of Thorizon’s first reactor.
We are proud to contribute to this innovative project together with our partners and look back to a successful kick-off.
