needle positioning system

Liver cancer is one of the most common and lethal cancers in the world. To diagnose this form of cancer, a physician takes a biopsy by accurately inserting a needle in the tumor. To destroy the tumor, the physician inserts one or more ablation needles. For deep and difficult to reach tumor lesions, this procedure is performed under CT guidance. Even for skilled specialists, it is hard to reach the right spot manually based on the CT image. Sometimes several attempts are necessary to place the needle successfully. To overcome this, a needle placement robot helps the medical specialist find exactly the right angle to place the needle the first time right – to the relief of both patient and specialist.

PCR Covid-19 test system.

During the pandemic, there was an urgent need for large-scale reliable Covid-19 testing on the spot, for example, at airports or entrance gates to crowded events. Our customer, miDiagnostics, immediately decided to create a portable, ultra-fast PCR Covid-19 test system. In less than a year, we developed the associated ‘reader’, a device for thermocycling and reading out disposable assay test cards. We also supported the development of these test cards.

"Pas als ik het niet meer kapot kan maken, is het goed." - Jasmijns verhaal.

Toen Jasmijn bij Demcon binnenstapte, wist ze nog niet precies welke kant ze op wilde. Met een diploma Biomedical Engineering op zak, maar weinig biomedical engineering functies met duidelijke omschrijvingen in de regio buiten de academische wereld, voelde de zoektocht naar een baan in Twente beperkt. Toch vond ze bij Demcon precies wat ze nodig had: ruimte om te ontdekken, te groeien en haar eigen pad te vormen.

hoe een stage Daan’s weg naar het ingenieurschap vormde.

Wat begon als een eenvoudige stage, bleek uiteindelijk bepalend voor de richting van Daan’s opleiding en carrière. Tijdens zijn mbo-opleiding in mechatronica liep Daan een oriënterende stage bij Demcon, waar hij werkte aan prototyping. Die ervaring werd een keerpunt.

Duurzaamheid bij Demcon: geen project, maar een manier van doen

Afgelopen zomer kregen we bezoek van Douwe de Vries, verslaggever van Overijssel Onderweg. Tijdens de zomer bezocht hij verschillende bedrijven in de provincie om hen te interviewen over hun beleid voor duurzame mobiliteit. Dat deed hij op een passende manier: door helemaal vanaf het provinciehuis in Zwolle naar ons hoofdkantoor in Enschede te fietsen. Tijdens zijn bezoek sprak hij met Emma van Geel (manager corporate sustainability) en Mika Bakker (communications specialist). Het resultaat lees je hieronder.

de sprong wagen: Elze’s overstap van de academische wereld naar groepsleider

Na meer dan tien jaar aan de Radboud Universiteit, waar ze haar bachelor, master en promotie in natuurkunde afrondde, vond Elze het tijd voor iets nieuws. “Ik wilde ervaren hoe het is om buiten de academische wereld te werken,” vertelt ze. “Bij voorkeur bij een groter bedrijf, waar ik verschillende rollen kon verkennen en echt kon ontdekken wat bij mij past.”
